Volunteer MCEC Council Member
Leadership Council
The Leadership Council shall oversee the calling, training and credentialing of pastoral leaders in keeping with the MCEC Statement of Identity and Purpose (Extending the Peace of Jesus Christ - making disciples - growing congregations - forming leaders) to maintain a strong base of congregational leadership.
Membership: Seven members elected to three year terms.
Responsibilities
- Cultivate a culture of collaboration to facilitate the formation of pastoral and lay leadership for MCEC congregations.
- Provide a place of support and resource for the Conference Minister and other staff relating to the Council (Co-ordinator of Leadership Formation, Regional Ministers).
- See to processes for calling and credentialing pastors.
- Be responsible for the discipline of pastors.
- Discern leadership qualities for faithful ministry from an Anabaptist perspective in the present-day culture.
- Develop policies that promote and maintain faithful and accountable leadership, and healthy pastor-congregation relationships.
- Assist congregations during times of pastoral review, pastoral discernment and pastoral transition.
- Promote the development of and equipping of lay leaders within MCEC.
- Collaborate with the Administrative and Financial Services Council to consult with Mennonite Church Canada in developing annual pastoral salary guidelines.
- Relate to the Administrative and Financial Services Council in the administration of student aid and retirement aid plans.
- Appoint such ad hoc committees or reference groups as may be necessary from time to time.
