Support Enroute to Paraguay

Forty-five persons, $1M worth of grocery cards, Mennonite World Conference in Paraguay, and a community of congregations wishing to support the fundraising efforts of MCEC youth and their adult sponsors. This is the recipe for part of MCEC Youth Come Together 2009 journey.

Anne Campion (soulspace) and Ruth-Ann Shantz (Valleyview Mennonite Church), two of the coordinators of MCEC Come Together 2009, are working closely with Ester Neufeldt, MCEC Operations Minister and Margaret Oakey, MCEC Bookkeeper as together they keep track of the large amounts of money resulting from this fundraiser. The group hopes to raise $50,000 of their total need of $90,000, by selling one million dollars worth of prepaid Loblaws' grocery cards. Generous individuals within MCEC provided $190,000 in interest free loans to facilitate the purchase of these cards. For every grocery card sold, 5% of each card's value is raised and deposited into the group fundraising pool. All fundraising is shared in a group pool so that no youth is prevented from participating in this potentially life-changing experience. The Administrative & Financial Services Council provides a strong under girding of financial support and resources so that we can continue to extend the peace of Jesus Christ to our world around us.
