A New Life at New Life Church

Atrocities and suffering, Javier had witnessed too many of both in his Latin American homeland. Somewhere along the way he lost his faith.

When Javier began attending Toronto Mennonite New Life Church, he listened intently and asked many questions. Deeply touched by a sermon describing the hard shell we build to protect our hearts, he allowed the Holy Spirit to break the encasement smothering his own heart. With the help of his wife, Miriam, Javier was able to let go of the hurts of his past. God’s love made him anew. He was baptized as
an Anabaptist Mennonite that same year.

The Holy Spirit has worked powerfully in Javier’s life. He now serves as youth pastor and is the chair of the pastoral team. He has embraced the unique Anabaptist perspective that violence and war are not the way to right the wrongs of poverty and injustice. As a disciple of Jesus Christ, he strives for the ways of peace and service in all aspects of life. It is wonderful to see how God is now using this new Anabaptist to guide the New Life congregation through a process of confession, healing and restoration. Javier is a wonderful gift.
