My Spiritual Journey
I immigrated from Laos to Canada in 2007. One day, my aunt called me and invited me to attend church with her. I didn't know much about what a church was, but I accepted her invitiation. When I arrived at Lao Canadian Evangelical Mennonite Church, I was welcomed warmly by everyone there and soon felt at home. I listened intently to the sermons and as the weeks passed, God touched my life.
In my past faith, I was taught that I would have a chance to go to heaven if I was a good person, helped others, and made offerings to the deceased spirits of loved ones. Here I learned that Jesus said, "Believe in me and you will be saved and have eternal life." God brought me peace and changed my life.
I was asked if I wanted to be baptized. I was not sure what this meant, but attending classes and talking about it with others helped me understand. Last summer our whole church went on a weekend retreat at Hidden Acres Mennonite Camp. There, in the lake, I was baptized along with two others from the church. The day was beautiful and I felt the support of my church family. I thank God for the many ways he has been present in my life, including my immigration process and my employment. I pray that my faith will increase and my life would be guided by God.
