Maza's Story:
Bethel Travels to Ethiopia

"Death had hung his hat and cloak in this home. The girls’ father died when they were very young but they were blessed with a mother who was a school teacher: an educated woman who could earn a good income. Then four years ago their mother died. We didn’t ask why or how or how they have managed till now. I don’t know the answers but I believe Baiza and Maza are still struggling to lift that heavy shroud from their young shoulders."

Discover more of Maza's story, as told by Cassie Lachance, and how a group from Bethel Mennonite Church (with friends from Zion Mennonite Fellowship) travelled to Ethiopia and were changed by their experience!

Bethel Mennonite Church is one of the MCEC community of congregations. MCEC is comprised of 94 congregations, engaged and called to a common mission of Extending the Peace of Jesus Christ.

On The Same Page - Book Review

On the Same Page is a way to connect congregations to helpful resources by featuring the books that MCEC staff and volunteers are reading.

  • Linda Brnjas, Executive Council, recommends Congregational Leadership in Anxious Times by Peter L. Steinke.

"I'd highly recommend the book to pastors, council chairs, and leadership teams who seek to lead their congregations to higher ground but fear opposition in trying to do so. Steinke promises opposition but also help leaders to navigate their way through to the other side."
    - Linda Brnjas
  • Al Rempel, MCEC Regional Minister, recommends The Naked Anabaptist by Stuart Murray.

"The 174 pages and relatively easy read unpacks seven core convictions that have been developed by the Anabaptist Network in Britain and Ireland... If the faith formation questions swirling about are of interest to you this book is one you will want to give a couple of hours to."
    - Al Rempel

If you have a resource that you feel would be helpful to the MCEC community of congregations, and would perhaps be interested in writing a short review, please contact Joan Schooley, MCEC Administrative Assistant.
