Mennonite Disciples Swahili Church (Ottawa-Gatineau) Join MCEC

preacher at frontMennonite Disciples Swahili Church (Ottawa-Gatineau) is a congregation of 30-45 individuals who meet on Sunday mornings for worship and prayer. Pastors Cryspin Isenge and Garant Sungura provide pastoral leadership for this congregation.

“God has been strengthening us. We are growing together in Christ and serving each other in love and respect.”

Through prayer meetings, discipleship training and serving in different areas of the church, members are growing in their faith together. “God has been strengthening us,” says Pastor Garant. “We are growing together in Christ and serving each other in love and respect.” They hope to start a Swahili Bible School in the next year and are praying to find a permanent place to worship together.

With strong roots in Africa, they worship primarily in Swahili, although there are numerous other languages present in the congregaztion. The congregation is a mix of new and older immigrants from the Swahili spaeaking nations of East Africa - most are originally from DR Congo.

They hope to start a Swahili Bible School in the next year.

Mennonite Disciples Swahili Church (Ottawa-Gatineau) began meeting in 2017 at Ottawa Mennonite Church and as a part of the MCEC network of church plants, they have strong relationships with several MCEC provisional congregations. They join Swahili-speaking congregations in MCEC: Église Bethésda Mennonite de Saint-Hyacinthe (MDM), Église Jésus-Christ Appelle Tous, Centre Béthésda Mennonite de Québec and now Mennonite Disciples Swahili Church (Ottawa-Gatineau). Mennointe Disciples Swahili Church has a strong relationship with Mennonite World Conference.

Mennonite Disciples Swahili Church (Ottawa-Gatineau) has been accepted into provisional membership in MCEC by the Executive Council. They will be welcomed at the Annual Church Gathering in April 2024 in Leamington, ON.
